Tears of regret: LeAnn Rimes cries as she admits she could have handled extra-marital affair with husband Eddie 'differently'

LeAnn Rimes breaks down talking about her affair with now husband Eddie Cibrian.

LeAnn Rimes broke down in tears in an emotional interview Sunday night where she opened up on the 2009 affair with now-husband Eddie Cibrian that led to the implosion of both of their marriages in a ugly cascade of gossip magazine headlines.

“I never, ever, in my heart want to hurt anyone, but I don’t think anything can separate anything that’s super-connected," the country star told E! News' Guiliana Rancic. "You might have had so many wonderful things with each other’s spouses in your relationships, but something along the way broke that. You can’t break what’s broken already.”

Cibrian, 39, and Rimes, 30, fell into each other's arms while filming the Lifetime movie "Northern Lights" three years ago. Their torrid affair led Cibrian to divorce his then-wife Brandi Glanville, mother of his two sons and now star of "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," and Rimes to end her marriage to husband Dean Sherement.

Rimes' new spouse was on hand for the E! interview, defending his wife and bashing criticism against them for their homewrecking as "unfair." "It wasn't frivolous, you know," said the former "Third Watch" and "CSI: Miami" star.

"I wish I handled it differently because I wish it could've been better for me, for Brandi, for Dean, for Eddie and for everyone else," Rimes told Rancic. "I know in this situation it's gonna take some time, all I wish is that everyone that was hurt, that we hurt, that I hurt, can be happy."

Cry me a river, says Cibrian's ex.

"My kids can be on a E! news special apparently but not in the background of the show I am on?" Glanville tweeted in response to footage of her two sons that appeared in the E! special after her former husband barred her from featuring their boys on her reality TV show. "Amazing!"

Glanville had a love-to-hate relationship with Rimes since she learned of the affair three years ago and she recently confided to friends that she doesn't want her kids alone with the country crooner, sources told the Daily News' Confidenti@!.

Brandi Glanville (l.) and Leann Rimes were acting friendly at Jake’s soccer game in March, but things have gone downhill since then.

Among her laundry list of complaints against the new Mrs. Cibrian: that she let 5-year-old Jake get sick eating a laxative out of Rimes' purse mistaking it for candy and let the boy ride his bike on a "very busy road" without his helmet.

“LeAnn has a severe eating disorder. She has [a laxative] in every purse,” Glanville told U.S. Weekly. “Mason found one on the floor and thought it was a Skittle!”

Her ex-husband almost immediately fired back telling RadarOnline in a statement, "It is absolutely ridiculous that my ex-wife continues to put the personal lives of myself, LeAnn, our sons and my family on public display for the sake of her notoriety.”
